WHEN THINGS ARE GONNA CHANGE, YOU BETTER BE READY!

As you may know, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code have been extended by adding a new code section,

BPVC Section XIII – RULES FOR OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION. The new code will be addressing minimum mandatory test bench requirements for production testing of pressure relief valves, including TEST VESSEL VOLUMES. BPV Section XIII was released in July 2021 and became mandatory for use on January 1, 2022.

The next edition will be released July 2023, with compulsory service beginning January 1, 2024. The new test bench requirements should be published in that edition. Your current test bench may not be capable of meeting the new code demands in the future?

BPVC Section XIII – RULES FOR OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION

Recently, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code have been extended by adding a new code section,  BPVC Section XIII – RULES FOR OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION. This section provides rules for the overpressure protection of pressurized equipment such as boilers, pressure vessels, and piping systems. This standard provides requirements for topics such as design, material, inspection, assembly, TESTING, and marking for pressure relief valves, rupture disk devices, pin devices, spring-actuated non-reclosing devices, and temperature and pressure relief valves. Understanding the future intent of this code allows for a transitional period in which necessary adjustments must be implemented. Pressure Relief Valve Manufacturers, Assemblers, and service companies are urged to prompt appropriate action.

THINGS ARE GONNA CHANGE!

The new code will be addressing minimum mandatory test bench requirements for production testing of pressure relief valves, including test vessel volumes, which will lead to the removal of notations in other international Codes and Standards. BPV Section XIII was released in July 2021 and became mandatory for use on January 1, 2022. The next edition will be released July 2023, with compulsory service beginning January 1, 2024. The new test bench requirements should be published in that edition.
